Johnson City police arrested a man with a prior felony conviction after an officer observed ammunition in one of the seats in his car early Tuesday morning, according to police.
Danial Whaley, 35, 161 Sheets Hollow Road, was charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon when a search revealed a gun inside the car.
About midnight, police initially observed suspicious vehicles at 250 W. Main St. and upon investigation met Whaley, who admitted to being a convicted felon.
Whaley was first arrested on possession of ammunition since he was the owner of the vehicle in which the ammunition was seen. A search resulted in the discovery of a Smith & Wesson pistol under the driver’s seat.
Whaley was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and was being held on a $10,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Tuesday afternoon.
