• Drug Task Force seeking to recoup more than $2,000 missing funds. The 1st Judicial District Drug Task Force will attempt to recoup more than $2,000 in missing funds from its insurance company, but participating agencies might end up paying it.
• K-Mets’ hit parade lights up JC Cards. The Johnson City Cardinals saw Kingsport’s Pedro Perez launch a pair of three-run home runs in Thursday’s 20-4 setback that also included a late offensive outburst by the visiting Mets.
• Jonesborough Days kicks off tonight. The annual Jonesborough Days celebration will get under way tonight with a kickoff dinner from 5 to 7 at International Storytelling Center and a full night of live music on the main stage at the Washington County Courthouse, locally brewed beverages on tap in the beer garden at the Storytelling Plaza and arts and crafts on display throughout the town.• Freedom Hall fireworks bring crowd back for show. When it came to setting up camp to watch the annual fireworks show, the folks at Freedom Hall Civic Center Thursday evening seemed to be old pros.
• Johnson City man charged with stealing vehicle from W. Market car lot. A man was charged Wednesday with stealing a vehicle from a West Market Street car lot.
• Vacationing Tennessee woman dies in balcony fall. A 22-year-old Tennessee woman died when she fell from a 10th floor balcony of a Panama City Beach condominium.
• 2nd phase of common core training for Tennessee teachers starts July 9. State education officials are kicking off the second phase of training teachers on how to implement a new set of common core benchmarks for math and reading.
