SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Brittany Clency scored 22 points as USC Upstate beat the East Tennessee State, 76-66, Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Sun women’s basketball tournament.ETSU, seeded sixth, finished its first season under Brittney Ezell at 9-21. Third-seeded Upstate improved to 17-13 and will face second-seeded Stetson in the semifinals on Saturday.Tiana Burley led ETSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds. She made all eight of her free throws.Serena Clark added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Shamauria Bridges had 12 points.Each team went 27 for 70 from the field for 39-percent shooting. But it was at the foul line where the Spartans dominated. They went 21 for 25 on free throws while ETSU only got to the line 10 times, making nine.The difference was too much to make up.For Upstate, Brittany Starling added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Valese McAllister had 16 points.It was ETSU’s final game in the A-Sun tournament. The school is moving to the Southern Conference next year.
