Update: 4-year-old boy dies from injuries after I-26 crash

KINGSPORT — An early afternoon crash on Interstate 26 claimed the life of a city woman and a 4-year-old boy Wednesday.Officials say the wreck occurred at about 12:45 p.m. in the westbound lane at mile marker 1.4.A Kingsport Police Department news release stated that a four-door Honda Civic sedan was traveling westbound on I-26. The vehicle was driven by Terri Temple, 30, Kingsport. A 4-year-old was in the back seat.A 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Paul Laycock, Elton, Wis., had stopped on the right shoulder of the highway to manipulate the vehicle's GPS system.The 4-year-old passenger was critically injured. A 4-year-old passenger in her vehicle, whose name was not released, received critical life-threatening injuries, police said in a news release. After his arrival at Holston Valley Medical Center, he was forwarded to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville by helicopter.Police said Temple's vehicle veered off the left side of the road. When she attempted to return the vehicle to the road, she overcorrected. Another vehicle was stopped on the roadside, and Temple's spinning car hit the other vehicle.
