A Johnson City man was driving on a revoked license Sunday when he ran a red light in east Johnson City and struck a minivan, injuring him and the other driver and forcing road closings, police said in a report.
John W. Ricker, 33, was driving his pickup north on East Oakland Avenue about 2:45 p.m. when he ran the red light at East Watauga Avenue and crossed into the path of a minivan driven by Penny Hale, 50, Jonesborough. Police said Hale had a green light as she traveled east on East Watauga.
Both Ricker and Hale were taken to Johnson City Medical Center.
A fire hydrant was damaged, the traffic light had to be replaced because the wreck knocked down polls at the intersection, forcing police to shut down portions of both Oakland and Watauga for several hours after the crash. Repairs continued into Monday, though lanes of both roads reopened.
Ricker was charged with driving on a revoked license, running the red light and a violation of the state's financial responsibility law.Related article:
