We are now just a few months away from the beginning of a very busy and important election year that will see voters decide a number of contested races for local, state and federal offices. It will all get started here in Washington County in mid-April with early voting for the Republican Primary for county offices.No matter who you support in these races, we have just one simple question: Are you registered to vote? If not, now is the time to do something about it.The last day to register to vote in the Republican Primary for county offices is April 7. That’s an important date to remember since many of these races will likely be decided in the GOP primary. Early voting in the Republican primary begins April 16.Tennesseans have a number of easy options for registering to vote. One is to fill out a form when you renew your driver’s license. Another is to pick up a form at the public library.You must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older and a resident of the state to qualify to vote. Tennesseans convicted of felonies are not eligible to vote unless they have had their full citizenship rights properly restored.Now is the time to get your voting eligibility status taken care of. You can do this by simply filling out a voter registration form at the Washington County Election Commission office. You also can register to vote at the county clerk or register of deeds offices, as well as at many state offices.
