Roads in the downtown Johnson City area, which included the Watauga Road and Unaka Aveune areas, were snow covered late Saturday morning and afternoon, as approximately 2 to 3 inches of snow fell around the region.
Just after noon emergency dispatchers were reporting cars sliding off of area roads, as well as numerous wrecks throughout the city.
Interstate 26 was also reported to be ice covered in parts, as well as reports of a single vehicle accident on State of Franklin Road.
City trucks and snow plows could be seen working throughout the downtown Johnson City area.
According to a TDOT Twitter feed, reports were coming in about patches of snow and ice in Washington, Unicoi, Sullivan, Carter and Scott counties.
