Johnson City police arrested an Erwin man Thursday on a charge that he shoplifted more than $1,000 in merchandise from a Walmart.
Police said William D. Buchanan, 35, 314 Norton Hollow Road, Erwin, placed several items valued at $1,065.72 into a shopping cart and attempted to push it from the store.
He was jailed in the Washington County Detention Center on $10,000 bond and arraigned Friday in Sessions Court.
