A Johnson City man already convicted of stealing more than $60,000 from an employer in 2010 pleaded guilty in Washington County Criminal Court this week to a similar crime at another job.
Gary Conrad, 44, pleaded guilty Wednesday to theft over $10,000 for stealing around $24,000 from Jason’s Deli, where he had worked for about nine months after his previous conviction.
Conrad worked at the sandwich shop at 1091 Hamilton Place when the thefts occurred. The general manager told police two bank deposits totaling $24,000 was taken in August and September 2012.
Conrad faces up to six years in prison for the conviction.
He also pleaded guilty to a probation violation based on the 2012 charge. Conrad was serving a 10-year probation sentence — in lieu of six years in prison — for a theft over $60,000 conviction.
That happened in 2009 when Conrad worked as an accountant for Glass & Concrete Contracting in Johnson City. The owner became suspicious after his profits began to decrease so he hired someone to audit the business records.
Conrad was accused of forging another person’s name on 69 business checks written to Conrad. Court records indicate that it appeared Conrad duplicated his payroll checks.
Conrad was ordered to serve his original six-year sentence and faces another six years at a sentencing hearing in August.
Conrad remained in the Washington County Detention Center without bond.
