A ruptured tank on a garbage truck shutdown a westbound lane on Interstate 26 Monday morning.
Johnson City police and fire personnel were actively containing the spill area that happened around 7:15 a.m. in between the Roan Street and Unaka Avenue exits, and traffic was directed to the left lane during the morning commute.
Tennessee Department of Transportation workers put out signage and orange cones to alert motorists of the right lane closure. Around 11:50 a.m. the two lane traffic heading westbound was reportedly backed up past the Main Street exit.
Emergency dispatchers said a few cars spun out because of the spill, but said no injuries were reported.
Crews, which included American Environment LLC, were still working to clean spill on the road Monday afternoon.
