Event: Father's Day 'You Da Man' 5K raises prostate cancer awareness

We Run Events owners Hank Brown and Natalie Whitlock, both cancer survivors and both marathon runners, will host an inaugural race to benefit prostate cancer awareness on Father’s Day.The You Da Man 5K will begin at 5 p.m., Sunday, June 16, at Borden Park, 901 Lamont St., in Kingsport. Proceeds will benefit programs of the American Cancer Society.Runners and walkers are invited to support the men in their lives, honoring those who have survived and remembering those who have lost the battle to prostate cancer.Special categories will include “Who’s Your Daddy?” (dad/child), “Stand By Your Man” (husband/- wife), “Best Mustache” and “First Prostate Cancer Survivor.”The race features mini footballs for the first 150 registered runners/walkers, blue T-shirts in honor of prostate cancer awareness, and football beer mugs instead of trophies.A cookout will follow the race, and all participants are invited to wear bow ties.Brown, a prostate cancer survivor, has finished seven marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He founded the Crazy 8’s 8K Run, which has produced world records for both men and women, and the Haunted Half Marathon. Whitlock, his wife, has also finished the Boston Marathon. She founded the White Lightning Ride and the Santa Special AniMile.Registration for You Da Man 5K is $20 until June 15. The cost is $25 the day of the race.
