Sullivan County state lawmaker Ron Ramsey is standing by his controversial 9-11 Tweet about President Barack Obama's strategy for dealing with chemical weapons use in Syria.Tennessee's lieutenant governor Tweeted the following on Wednesday morning, the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon:“As the President attempts to ally w/ Al-Qaeda in Syria’s civil war, we must always remember who attacked us on our soil 12 years ago."Ramsey's Tweet brought a firestorm of criticism for politicizing the anniversary and accusing the president of culpability with al-Qaida — as well as support — across the state. In a statement released this morning, Ramsey expounded on his position and stood by the Tweet:"Every September 11 since that tragic Tuesday in 2001 has been a day of remembrance," he said in a written statement released to media. "We remember those who died, those who served and those who carry on. But we must also remember those who attacked us and why. The Syrian rebel's connections to Al-Qaeda are well-established and well-known. I am proud to stand with leaders like Senator Ted Cruz and Senator Rand Paul against coming to the aid of our enemies, enemies who continue to hate our country from afar as they kill Christians in their own country."Related question:
