ELIZABETHTON — A riderless pickup truck reportedly crashed into one home and went through another yard after breaking free from the chock placed on its wheels at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officer James Deese of the Elizabethton Police Department said the 2006 Ford Ranger belonged to Jacob Osborne. Deese said the truck rolled down the steep hill at Paty Place and went through the yard of Joshua Allen Smith before striking the residence of Judy Ann Hansford.
Deese said Osborne had parked the truck on the road while staying at a friend's residence for the night. Osborne told Deese he used chocks because of the hill and because his emergency brake did not work.
When the vehicle broke free from the chock, it rolled down the hill, going through Smith's yard, where it caused damage to trees and bushes. When the truck reached Hansford's property, it caused damage to a wall and then hit the house, causing damage inside and out.
