Rain storm floods streets, businesses in downtown Johnson City

A strong set of thunderstorms with heavy rain drenched areas in Washington County this afternoon, including the downtown Johnson City area, forcing some vendors at the 17th annual Umoja Festival to drop their tents and secure their items.Some tents at the festival did blow over because of the strong winds and rain, as people scattered throughout the downtown area took shelter in downtown businesses and underneath overhangs.Johnson City police personnel starting blocking off streets in the downtown area, including South Commerce, Boone and Market streets.Other flooding has been reported at Science Hill High School's football stadium, as well as in the flood prone area of East Brook Lane near Cobb Creek.Keep checking JohnsonCityPress.com for updates as the story develops.
